e for the Homeless will host the Jog with a Frog 5K and a 1 Mile Walk in the Park community event presented by Aqua Doc Lake and Pond Management on Saturday August 10 at 8 a.m. at Kiwanis Recreation Park in Painesville.
The Jog with a Frog 5K and a 1 mile Walk in the Park is a fun and active way to raise awareness and support for Project Hope for the Homeless, the only emergency shelter in Lake County. The community event will feature a post-race cook-out with food donated and prepared on site by Scooter’s World Famous Dawg House, live music by Michael McFarland, and free face-painting by Project Hope volunteer Rebecca.
Runners also will have a new opportunity at this year’s event to find miniature frogs located on the course that may be turned in after the race for a special prize of artwork created by guests of Project Hope. The City of Painesville Fire Department, EMS, and law enforcement will be there for racers to visit and tour as well.
“We are really excited about our second annual Jog with a Frog 5K and 1 Mile Walk in the Park event this year,” said Michael K. Lawrence II, Project Hope’s development director and race director. “Our presenting sponsor, Aqua Doc, shares our dream for this event not only to just focus on the athletes who enjoy jogging a 5K, but also to really open it up to the entire community where we can all come together, enjoy each other, have some fun, eat some food, listen to music, hang out with some local heroes, all to support those in our neighborhood who experience the hardship of homelessness.
Additional sponsors include Fitzgerald Tours, Lake County Captains, lassnick Excavating Inc., Trans-America Financial Advisors, Visiting Angels, Windsor-Laurelwood Center for Behavioral Medicine.
“Together, we really can bring restored hope and renewed lives to hurting folks,” Lawrence added. “We are excited to bring the community together to accomplish this goal.”
Project Hope, celebrating its 26th anniversary in 2019, is a 50-bed facility and provided shelter for 471 guests including 65 children in 2018. Guests received emergency shelter, a hot dinner, light breakfast, packed lunches and weekly one-on-one meetings with a trained professional staff member who helps guests set goals and gives them referrals for more comprehensive treatment, housing and care.

Cost for the 5K is $25 through Aug. 9 and $30 on race day. The price for the 1-mile walk is $15 through Aug. 9 and $20 on race day. In-person registration begins at 7 a.m. Aug. 10 with runners and walkers toeing the line at 8 a.m. at Kiwanis Recreation Park, 301 Latimore St., Painesville.
Participants in the 5K will proceed on an out-and-back course beginning at Kiwanis Recreation Park then to Mill Street and turn left onto Main Street and head east before turning around by the Madison Avenue Elementary School and then dashing back to the finish at Kiwanis Recreation Park. Walkers will enjoy a nice 1-mile walk within the park itself.
The top three male and top three female finishers in the 5K will receive overall awards. Age group awards will be given to the top three male and female finishers in the age groups: 14 and younger, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69, and 70 and older.
