Our Welcome Home program provides eligible guests who are transitioning to their own home with up to $500 worth of household goods and small furniture not available to them by other means for their new home.
The Welcome Home program helps guests start over with their lives. Many do not own common household necessities to start again. Part of what can make a positive transition harder for some guests is there is not much discretionary income available to them. Housing is considered affordable to someone paying up to 30%of their income for rent. Our service population typically uses 50% or more and often begins the transition to their own home with a rental subsidy from a partner agency for 3-6 months. For many guests transitioning, there is not much income left to meet basic needs.
To help serve our guests, we are in the design process to build a new 700-square-foot building, called the Welcome Home Center, on our property for former guests to shop for free from supplies to include in their new home.
The Welcome Home Center will help make it easier for eligible participants to shop for their needs in a convenient onsite location and allow for more storage of other supplies inside our main shelter building.
