Project Hope for the Homeless was pleased to have a successful Jog with a Frog 5K and a 1 Mile Walk in the Park community event presented by Aqua Doc Lake and Pond Management.
The Jog with a Frog 5K and a 1 mile Walk in the Park on Saturday August 10 at 8 a.m. at Kiwanis Recreation Park in Painesville attracted 80 participants. The event was a fun and active way to raise awareness and support for Project Hope for the Homeless, the only emergency shelter in Lake County.
Runners enjoyed a new opportunity at this year’s event to find miniature frogs located on the course to turn in after the race for a special prize of artwork created by guests of Project Hope for the Homeless.
The post-race party included a delicious cook-out with food donated and prepared on site by Scooter’s World Famous Dawg House, live music by Michael McFarland, arts and crafts by Amanda Nyx, costume superhero appearances by Spiderman and Bella from Imaginos Productions, and free face-painting by Project Hope volunteer Rebecca.
Additional sponsors for the race included Fitzgerald Tours, Lake County Captains, lassnick Excavating Inc., Trans-America Financial Advisors, Visiting Angels, Windsor-Laurelwood Center for Behavioral Medicine.
The City of Painesville Fire Department, EMS, and law enforcement also were on hand for racers to visit and tour as well.
Project Hope for the Homeless, celebrating its 26th anniversary in 2019, is a 50-bed facility and provided shelter for 471 guests including 65 children in 2018. Guests received emergency shelter, a hot dinner, light breakfast, packed lunches and weekly one-on-one meetings with a trained professional staff member who helps guests set goals and gives them referrals for more comprehensive treatment, housing and care.
